COM 325 / Week #5 Discussion: Is Religion the Opium of the People?

Karl Marx said ""Die Religion ... ist das Opium des Volkes" (or, "religion is the opiate of the masses")? Do you know why he made this statement? Do you agree with him? Why?
                                                          Karl Marx (5 May 1818 – 14 March 1883)

  1. How does your religion, secular worldview, or spirituality provide you with some ethical guidelines to weather through the ups and downs in your life?
Like I have stated before I don’t have a particular religion that I believe in, but if I did I guess it would be Christianity. I don’t know why I choose that, I guess I can say that the person that I run too is my aunt and she is my guidance to religion. When I need a pray she is who I go to, she is the one that I ask for help when needed. I do pray every night, I do ask God for forgiveness. I don’t go to a church and bow down on my knees and ask forgiveness, I confined in to my aunt who always for some odd reason has the right words to say, has the right virus to read when in a good or bad situation. Most people don’t believe in going to one person without a church over their head, or they have a title of some sort in front of their name. Not me I am optimistic I guess.
