I have a question: Did Mao Tse-tung ever go back to his original thought process of materialist dialectics? or did he continue to use dogmatic thinking? Thanks, Teri
In week two's power point presentation, under the slide what's wrong with hero, you included that we don't need savior, but what about God? (this and following questions are general, not for the purpose of questioning anyone's religion or anything.) if you have attended church before or heard any of the religious songs, it always mentioned that God is our savior. By saying that we don't need savior, won't that also indicating we don't need God? What role in the drama triangle does God play? or drama triangle does not work for God or the monks? if monks are saint, then what about God? a sage? a saint? Last but not least, you said that you try to spend $1 everyday on food, i feel that is impossible if the person buys three meals a day. even if you cook for yourself and buys raw food from the store to cook, you still would exceed $1 limit. unless, possibly, you plant your own food or that you're eating noodles three times a day and each cost about 20-30 cents.
First, when I said "we don't need savior," the word savior here is a metaphor. Because sometimes a hero can act like he is god. Since we don't need that kind of god, so we don't need savior.
Now let's go to the biblical "God." People may need God or may not need God depending on their perspective. When I said a victim doesn't need a savior to solve his problem, I did not mean he doesn't need God. He may need God or may not need God depending on his worldview. But he doesn't need a hero who acts like a savior capable of solving all the problems.
Here I emphasize that people need to "own" the problem. A victim doesn't have the courage to own the problem, and end up waiting for a savior-like hero to clean up the mess. So. here I mean we need to practice our individual responsibility in the midst of the conflict. We should not allow a savior-like hero to act on behalf of us.
So, when I say we don't need savior, I didn't mean we don't need God.
In drama triangle, I honestly don't know what role God plays. Our textbook didn't mention God in this situation. I don't know how could God be relevant in this situation. Again, it depends on people's perspective. To somebody, God is everywhere. To somebody, God is mysterious and cannot be summoned by you whenever possible. To somebody, God is nowhere. To somebody, there is no God. I will not disclose my religious perspective here.
To me, sage are human being. So, biblical God is not sage. I consider it blasphemous to count this God as sage. All the sages have a real human name, have real life journey, have lived and died like a human being.
As to the one dollar a day thing, it is my temporary experiment. It is workable. Actually, some monk can live less than one dollar. First, you don't need three meals a day, two meals is okay. Monks have a rule to not eat after the noon. vegetable and flavor is very cheap, if you cook by your self, month expense is no more than 30 dollars. I currently spend more than one dollar a day because on Monday I don't have time to cook and end up eating in Golden Crown. But I am confident I can live the life of one dollar a day. It is my personal conviction. It is very challengeable, but is doable. People may call me a liar. But...
