MA 260 / Week Two Discussion: Is There Too Much Music?
Read this article: Is There Too Much Music. Tell us if you agree or disagree with the author's claim that music in modern society is more like "cheese-cake."
Life without many different types of music would be like living in a world with only the primary colors or worst yet only seeing black and white. Since people are individuals each with their own desires and opinions why should music be limited to a small number of choices. I don't nessarily agree with the cheesecake analogy as a good comparsion to music. However I can relate to having too much cheesecake, and the feeling after having too much of the rich and heavy dessert. I have never had too much music to listen to. This is because there are so many different types of music if one gets too much of one type of music they can switch to another without feeling full. Also a person can choose what type of music to enjoy depending on their mood or state of mind. Some may prefer quiet relaxing music while others may desire loud heavy metal. If there wasn’t so many choices of music to listen to then one could get sick of music in general similar to the same type of cheesecake. Being sick of too much music isn’t an actual problem, whereas being bored with one type of music is boring and that would be a problem.
To be honest I am the kind of person that is always listening to music. I am a true believer on the phrase I would die without music. Therefore, I cannot say that there is too much music, actually, I feel like there is just enough for every taste, mood or personality. I think that depending on what are you doing, or the emotional stat that you are in, you can choose from a variety of music that can help you relax, dance, cry, or just simply can get you in a happy state. I think there is much more music to be discover and I could never be tired of it. Of course there are some kinds that I can listen to for a longer period of time, but some others that I cannot even stand for one song, and I think that thats what the author refers to when he mentions having too much sweet, sometimes you are just full, but the beauty of music is that there are so many kinds, and so many different singers, and instruments that no song is the same, even when two authors are singing the same song, there are completely different versions, and you may hate a song but if you listen to it in another version or sang by another singer you may like it. Music for me is the color in my life, it is what helps me move on and be better.
