Personally, I believe there are many benefits to learning a second language. In the world we live in today, there is no reason we shouldn't learn at least to speak Spanish. At least once or twice everyday I hear people speak Spanish as well as speak English, and I just feel it is a great asset to be able to speak a second language. You are able to communicate with people besides the ones you interact with everyday. I know that working at the hospital as a CNA it has come in handy more often than you think to be able to speak just a little bit of Spanish to communicate with my patients that are Spanish speaking only. I think it is beneficial to all US citizens to learn at least the basics of a second language, to be able to speak with others within our country.
Personally, I feel that I should learn a second language,I feel this way because I am in the medical field and you dont know who is going to come throught the emergancey doors. I am lucky that I have taught myself ASL and I took latin in high school, and some spanish in college, still wanting to take more but I have a good understand what someone is trying to say to me and I can respond back to them. I have done this because latin helps out with the meaning of medical terminolgy, if you look at my transcript I have taken all the medical terminoly and body structure and functions that I can take and have A's these classes, becaue I personally feel that the latin has helpped me with this. I also feel that is useful to learn spanish because most of our mojority of citisions are not white american. I also taught myself ASL because I have known people that are not able to talk and cant hear, so learning that was very helpful, I am able to help others with this in my medical field. I love how they use their hands to talk, this was another thing that I think that is important to learn someones body laungage.
